Trinity Lutheran Church (TLC) has been awarded a $3,500 grant from the ELCA’s Southwest California Synod for a year-long Mission and Ministry Funded project. The project will be to expand our financial support of Ventura County’s Caregiver organization to extend supports to homebound seniors who are affiliated with 12 other ELCA congregations throughout Ventura County. A team comprised of TLC’s Pastor Bruce Johnson, and two volunteers with Caregivers; Doug Miller (a retired MSW) and Teri Helton (a retired RN) will be working with the Pastors and lay leadership of interested ELCA congregations in Ventura County.
The project will involve an assessment of each church’s activities, outreach and support to each congregation’s senior members. As well, a consultative sharing with pastors and lay leadership of what each congregation has found to be successful in supporting their seniors will take place. Caregivers’ has extensive experience in the recruitment, enrollment and supervision of volunteers who support over 500 homebound seniors. Caregivers can make its free case management services and linkages with other community resources available to Pastors and the lay leadership and volunteers affiliated with each ELCA congregation. A “gatherings” group of TLC volunteers may be established in the coming months. Interested in participating? Contact Doug Miller.
