Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace to this house!’ And if a person of peace is there, your peace will rest on that person, but if not, it will return to you.  - Luke 10:5-6

The second Sunday of Advent is the Sunday of Peace. Here in the text Jesus speaks of a kind of peace that is not just the absence of conflict, but a deep, spiritual peace that comes from knowing God’s presence and grace. In the Old testament, peace is often associated with SHALOM, a word that embraces wholeness, completeness, and reconciliation. It is a peace that restores, heals and makes things right.

When Jesus sends out his disciples to offer peace. He is not just telling them to speak kind words. He is commissioning them to bring God’s way of life into people’s lives, to offer them a peace that surpasses understanding - a peace that only comes from God, a peace that is a sign of the reign of God and the work of the reconciliation Jesus came to accomplish through His life, death and resurrection.

The peace of Christ is a gift that is available to all, but it is up to each individual to receive it. Just as the message of Jesus is sometimes accepted and sometimes rejected, God’s peace is offered to everyone. But it can only remain and live where it is welcomed.

As followers of Christ, we are called to be ambassadors of peace, carrying the message of God's kingdom wherever we go. Where can you be intentional about bringing the peace of wholeness and reconciliation in your life circles?

Peace, Pastor Erin
