Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test. ”  Luke 4:12

Have you ever been in a situation where you felt the urge to take matters into your own hands, testing God's timing or His promises? In Luke 4:12, Jesus faced a similar challenge when the devil tempted Him to prove His power by throwing Himself down from the temple. Jesus responded firmly, saying, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

This moment reveals something profound about trust. The temptation was for Jesus to take a shortcut, to test God in a way that would prove His power without fully submitting to God’s will. But Jesus knew that true faith isn’t about forcing God’s hand or demanding signs. It’s about trusting in God’s plan, His timing, and His provision, even when things don’t make sense.

How often do we try to test God? Maybe it’s when we’re impatient for an answer, anxious about the future, or doubting His promises. We might want to control situations or demand that God act in our timing. But like Jesus, we are called to trust that God’s ways are higher than ours, and His plan is always good—even when we don’t understand it fully.

This week, reflect on where you might be trying to test God instead of trusting Him. Can you surrender control in those areas and trust His perfect timing.

Peace, Pastor Erin
