For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many. - Mark 10:45
This week harkens back to the devotion from last week. Are you seeking to DO something or BE something? If we are, in fact, seeking to BE and LIVE as followers of Christ, then we can and should rejoice in the times that we are living lives of service to others and the world. Sometimes service is in boisterous and communal ways, and sometimes service is in the quiet of prayer, and sometimes service is in the working behind the scenes so that our communal events are well balanced.
Serving others, as Jesus shows us and tells us, is the path to true greatness.
This is such a startling verse, if we really think about it. We often believe OURSELVES to be servants of God. We learn in our work and study that we follow Jesus and God. We worship God, absolutely. When we read this verse and understand Jesus as a servant to the world AND He gave his life as a “ransom for many”, how does that reshape our thinking, our action, our lives? Do we also find ways to give our lives for others?
In what ways are we servants of God and servants to the world? How genuinely, passionately, thoroughly are you willing to be of service?
Peace, Pastor Erin
