"And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth."  - John 1:14

It is fascinating, isn’t it.  That the creator of the universe, the one and only God, the one who spoke the stars into existence, the one who named each and every creature toes to come close to us not in a way to overwhelm or frighten us, but in a way we could personally understand God became human. God lived among us.

The word made flesh wasn’t just an idea, a distant figure from history. Jesus walked this earth, shared our joys, in our sorrows, and experienced what it is to be human. Jesus was not too high or too holy to get in the dirt and the muck and the mess of life. Instead, Jesus entered our world.

     Fully God.
     Fully human.

And through the life that Jesus lived, we saw the glory of God, not in frightening thunder or fire, but in love truth and kindness.

This verse reminds us that Jesus was full of Grace and Truth. Grace is God‘s undeserved love and favor given to us truth is the real unchanging reality of who God is and what God desires for us. Jesus didn’t just show us the truth about God. Jesus was the truth. Jesus didn’t just offer grace, Jesus embodied grace.

It’s amazing for us to think about this action. God didn’t just stay far away in heaven. After God created the heavens and the Earth, God did not just watch and wait.  God did not just wait for us to get it right, or wait for us to figure it out; instead, God came close.  In a way that we could touch and see and understand, God invited us to walk alongside Him, knowing that we would stumble along the way and yet in God‘s grace God continues to pick us up, and wait for us, and watch over us.

It’s an important note to remember that
We are never alone.
We are never alone.
We are never alone,

Thank God, Pastor Erin
